Organizational Background

Christie Lake Kids is a charitable organization that has been serving children and youth living in low income households in the Ottawa area since 1922. Christie Lake Kids provides year round services to children and youth through an excellent camp experience and strategically located city recreational opportunities through the STAR (Skills Through Arts and Recreation) city program. Our mandate is to provide high quality recreation opportunities that help children and youth build the skills necessary for developing long term resiliency.

Our Board

The CLK Board of Directors, comprised of dedicated leaders from both the non-profit and for-profit sectors, is committed to Christie Lake Kids’ organizational mission to offer quality programs that build skills and enrich lives. In addition to standard responsibilities, our Board members act as advocates and ambassadors for the organization. They are fully engaged and support the organization’s efforts to advance its mission. The Christie Lake Kids Board strives to be a model of governance and leadership for the organization.

Newly introduced in 2025, our Board reserves one seat for a youth representative. This individual is 18+ years old and has participated in recreational or leadership programs offered by Christie Lake Kids or another local agency during their childhood.

Commitment

The Christie Lake Kids Board meets once a month for eight months of the year in a hybrid model – there is an option to meet in person or online. Pre-reading is required in preparation for all meetings. Quorum is half of the membership plus one. Board members are encouraged to attend at least one of Christie Lake Kids’ marquee fundraising events throughout the year. All Board members are active participants on a subcommittee that reports to the Board, including: Programs, Human Resources and Governance, Risk and Financial Management, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. These subcommittees include community members at-large. Board members are strongly encouraged to make financial donations to the charity, in no specified amount.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To attend Board meetings scheduled for the last Wednesday (evening) of every month, excluding June, July, August, and December
  • To engage in matters of strategic planning, fundraising and governance
  • Attend and participate, lending expertise and insight at every interaction
  • Willingness to lead or join one or more of Christie Lake Kids’ subcommittees
  • Discuss and vote on appropriate agenda items
  • Be an advocate for Christie Lake Kids in the greater community
  • Attend and support Christie Lake Kids’ fundraising events, and other activities as requested
